Privacy Policy

The organizers of the Camino de La Salle Virtual Walk ("we", "us", or "our") are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our web application (the "App").

1. Information We Collect

We may collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the App includes:

  • Personal Data: Personally identifiable information, such as your name, email address, phone number, school affiliation, and category (e.g., student, alumni), that you voluntarily give to us when you register with the App.
  • Geolocation Data: We request access to your device's location when you use the check-in feature at a checkpoint to verify your proximity. This data is used once per check-in and is not tracked continuously.
  • User Content: We collect the photos you upload when you check in at a checkpoint. These photos may be visible to event administrators.
  • Data From Your Activity: We collect data about your progress in the virtual walk, including which checkpoints you have completed and the scores you have earned.

2. Use of Your Information

Having accurate information about you permits us to provide you with a smooth, efficient, and customized experience. Specifically, we may use information collected about you via the App to:

  • Create and manage your account.
  • Administer the virtual walking event.
  • Display your progress and score on a public leaderboard. Your full name and school may be visible.
  • Verify your check-ins at virtual checkpoints.
  • Communicate with you regarding your participation.

3. Disclosure of Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information. This does not include trusted third parties (such as event organizers and administrators) who assist us in operating our App, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. Your name, school, and score will be publicly visible on the leaderboard.

4. Security of Your Information

We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information. We utilize Firebase, a platform by Google, which provides robust security for data storage and user authentication. While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the personal information you provide to us, please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse.

5. Reservation of Rights and Notification Policy for Programme Participation

With a view to protect the collective interest of all participants of any programme offered by this app, we expressly reserves the right to refuse your application or terminate your participation without any reason being given to you. Nonetheless, in the event of your application being refused or participation being terminated, we will notify you of its decision by post or by electronic mail at the address you provided and, if the Committee Members of the App deem it appropriate, inform you of the reason(s) of refusal or (as the case may be) termination.
